How Crosstie Practice compares with the leading practice-management platforms
What you get, and how it's priced, set beside what the leading practice-management platforms for tax and accounting firms publish about themselves. Every claim about them is checked against their own pricing pages, dated, and re-checked at least every six months. Where they're ahead, we say so.
Workpapers, included
The workpaper comes with Crosstie Practice at no extra charge. It isn't a separate product or a higher plan.
- Incomplete, never confidently wrong. A figure that can't be supported isn't computed. A client document whose contents don't reach the return stops the tax, and names the document. On business returns, gaps such as tax depreciation not yet entered hold up sign-off.
- A review queue sign-off can't skip. Sign-off refuses while any review item is open, and re-runs every check first. If a check can't run, sign-off refuses. A problem the system found reopens until its cause is fixed, and every resolution records who resolved it and when.
- Tie-outs for business returns. For partnership and corporate returns, the return's key totals are entered and each is checked against the workpaper. A difference ties only when someone explains it, and an open difference blocks sign-off. K-1s are totalled across owners and checked against the entity.
- Entries suggested from the client's ledger. For business returns, each is labelled as an adjusting, reclassifying or tax-only entry and waits for the preparer to post or reject it. Tax-only entries carry to the book-to-tax reconciliation on Schedule M-1.
- Sign-off at the levels you choose. Preparer, reviewer and partner, in order. Signing freezes the workpaper's figures until someone unfreezes it with a stated reason, which is logged. If one person signs two levels, the record says it wasn't an independent review.

How it's priced
Five things the leading practice-management platforms publish on their own pricing pages, and where Crosstie Practice stands on each. A row appears here only if it holds for every platform we compared.
| The leading practice-management platforms | Crosstie Practice |
|---|---|
| Charges stack on top of the subscription. Usage credits, per-item fees, or modules sold separately. | One price per user per month, everything included. The one optional add-on, accounting for your firm's own books, comes in early 2027. |
| The entry price isn't the whole product. Capability is tiered or capped by plan. | One plan. There are no feature tiers. |
| Priced per user. The bill grows with headcount. | Priced per user too. The same single price for each user. |
| A client portal comes with the platform. | A client portal is included too. |
| Annual billing is the headline price. Where a monthly option is offered, it costs more or needs a minimum team size. | Monthly or annual, your choice. The annual rate is discounted. Prices not yet published |
A different kind of product: a firm running tax preparation software with a bolt-on client portal is buying the portal, the workflow tool and e-signature as a priced extra on top of the tax licence. It isn't one of the platforms compared above.

- Time that records itself. Time is recorded against the engagement as you work. Idle time is dropped, and each block is confirmed before it's logged.
- Document chasing with a limit. Email reminders go at 3, 7 and 14 days, every 2 days inside 14 days of the deadline, then stop and hand over to a person.
- §7216 consent in the engagement letter. The engagement letter asks for consent, and client files follow it.
